Printec Slovenia plays a crucial part in Slovenia's Euro Transition

On January 1st 2007, Slovenia became the 13th EU member state to introduce the Euro, replacing its national currency. Migration on New Year's day was executed smoothly without any issues. The network of more than 1.500 ATMs was shut down on December 31st at 21:00, with the first group of ATMs back online few minutes after midnight. Seventy two percent of the ATM network was back online by 04:00, with all 1017 NCR ATMs being online at that time. Overall, all ATMs came online quickly, as scheduled.

Printec Slovenia, as the official NCR partner, played a crucial part in this project, as it had to configure more than 65% of all ATMS deployed in the region. Slovenian banks migrated to the new currency using the "big bang" approach. The ATM network was crucial in providing cash to bank customers, so it was necessary to equip ATMs with the remote download software adapted for Euro cash withdrawals. This was a big task requiring detailed preparation and planning, thorough project work and intense preliminary testing. Despite the difficulty of the project, the task was completed successfully and -most importantly- on time. The first one to withdraw Euro notes was the Slovenian prime minister, who withdrew money from an NCR ATM only a few minutes after midnight.

Detailed preparations, hard work, and the collaboration of all banks contributed to the success of this operation. More than one thousand NCR ATMs of the Slovenian network were online and dispensing Euro notes immediately after midnight. Ninety two percent of the country's ATM network was back on line on January 1st at 15:00 p.m. and by 10:00 a.m. on January 1st, about 11.500 people withdrew money from the Slovenian ATM network.
